Guidelines for Guests/Influencers

We’ve created the following social media guide for you to provide to any guests (influencers, media, celebrities etc.) entering the theatre. This is to ensure that when posting about the show, they use the correct title and hashtags, i.e., #moulinrougethemusical (not just #moulinrouge).

Access the template here. For guests given access to the auditorium or stage, please follow these best practices:

Basic Key Art

The Moulin Rouge! The Musical key art consists of the logo over a black background. For video end cards, banner end frames, and graphics that announce Moulin Rouge! The Musical coming to a city, you should use this art with a combination of Light Type and Gotham copy at the bottom. Please use Light Type to highlight your main message, and Gotham Bold in white as secondary copy.

Red Glows

For some graphics, we may add a red radial gradient in the background to make the glow on the Light Type more vibrant and add some dimension to graphics that may feel flat.

We also use it when promoting merch items that are black-colored (such as the cast album, the puzzle, apparel, etc.), to make the items “glow” and be distinguishable against black backgrounds.

Alt colors

In rare moments, we may choose to use other colors to break away from our usual black and red graphics, and to call the reader’s attention to a particular moment. These colors must feel relevant to the Moulin Rouge! The Musical world and the content itself.

Examples:

Blue: L’amour set, romantic content

Green: Absinthe, “Chandelier” scene, the Green Fairy

Purple/Pink: the Elephant Room, can-can dresses, Bohemians

Filigree frame

Generally, we use this frame on social media graphics, front of house, and assets that are copy-heavy as it helps to add some flair. There are no strict rules on when to use this frame. On social channels, we try to alternate its use so it doesn’t feel repetitive. When we feature/call out a particular cast member, we do try to use it with Light Type to frame the attention around him/her/them.

When using this frame on social channels, please make sure to keep the proportions of the corners consistent across each post.

Heart Portal

Another framing element in our toolkit is the heart portal. This asset is a large photograph of the set cropped tightly around the heart, so we can use the black area to place content such as the Moulin Rouge! The Musical logo, Light Type, logo lockups, and some art. Please try to use this sparingly so it doesn’t feel repetitive, and make sure to keep the placement consistent on social graphics.

Vector font

Occasionally, we may use our MR vector font inspired by the Moulin Rouge! The Musical logo’s letters. When we do, we like to make them feel like festive neon signs against the scaffolding to make the message feel exciting or to announce an important moment.

gold texture

For highbrow moments, we may overlay the content of the graphic with a gold texture to make it feel premium and exclusive. Please use the identical area of the gold background file to match the gold texture of the examples.

partnerships

Whenever we partner with another brand or institution for an event or promotion, we create a logo lockup using an “X” in between. Always take into consideration the partner logo’s shape to decide whether to use the horizontal or the stacked Moulin Rouge! The Musical logo, so they both feel proportionate to each other.

Depending on what kind of event/promotion it is, you may choose to style it differently. Super-exclusive/high-end events would call for this lockup to be overlaid with the gold texture. For fun prizes or contests, you may choose treatment that feels relevant to the content. Lower-key events/promotions may keep the logos as is, without any treatments.

custom collages

Occasionally, we create custom collages and illustrations by mixing elements from the show with treatments and effects. This type of work is not common and needs to be approved by the producers of the show.

animations

For social media posts, you may use animation effects to bring the photography to life. These animations should be subtle and enhance the image in a natural way. Acceptable animation effects include: sparkles, floating light particles, animated glows, flash bursts, red confetti, or fireworks.

EXAMPLES: social

The below examples show a range of how to use the Moulin Rouge! The Musical tone, ranging from our typical exuberance to slightly more subdued and earnest. It’s important to match our tone to the cultural mood of the moment (e.g., social unrest, Covid-19, national tragedies) so as not to allow our typical tone to feel inappropriate.
